During its recent meeting in the city of Medellín, the Board of Directors of the Association of Family and Business Foundations - AFE approved the plan for the implementation of its new strategy for the next two years.
Since its creation in 2008, AFE has served as a platform for its associates to advance collectively in the search for sustainable transformations. At the same time AFE has made visible the collective commitment of each of the AFE Foundations to achieve structural changes that favor the construction of a better country.
The three strategic axes of the AFE presented during the General Assembly in March 2019 are: Connect, Influence and Strengthen. With the formulation of this new strategy, the AFE seeks to fulfill three purposes:
- preserve and enhance the achievements achieved in ten years;
- identify new areas of opportunity to improve the impact of their work;
- offer increasing value to all partners.
The mission defined for the AFE in the framework of its new strategy is to contribute to the strengthening of the foundations, through capacity development, the promotion of collaborative work and the impact on the dynamics of the private sector and public policies. At this point, it is important to mention that the new strategy is not only about incorporating new initiatives, but it also tries to adopt new approaches, new priorities and new ways of doing things. The main new elements incorporated in this strategy are: the strengthening of the trade union role and the inclusion of a new axis of action called strengthening, through which the Association seeks to contribute to the development of capacities of the associated foundations. In addition, the AFE also hopes to strengthen the advocacy processes and the processes of collaboration and collective learning, within the framework of the influence axis and the connection axis.
Likewise, new central elements of the incorporated strategy are transversal to the following axes: capacity development, adoption of good practices, process approach, and measurement and evaluation.
The main desire of the Association is that thanks to this new strategy the associated foundations can enhance their contribution to true social transformations in the country. With this strategy they can reduce inequality gaps and ensure that communities in all the territories of the country where AFE Foundations are present, improve their living conditions in a sustainable way.
