      Colombia has recently launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Corporate Tracker, an initiative that measures the contribution of the private sector to the SDGs. Pioneered at the national and global levels, this innovative tool invites private sector companies to collect and share data on their contribution to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda.

      This initiative is led by the Technical Secretariat of the SDG Commission in Colombia, headed by the National Planning Department (DNP), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), its Global Business Call to Action Platform (BCtA), and Global Reporting Initiative GRI.

      SDG Corporate Tracker is consolidated as the national platform in which the companies of the country can report their contributions in favor of the SDGs. The platform will be available on the website.

      According to Pablo Ruiz, UNDP Country Director, jointly-developed sustainability reports would be important for:

  • recognizing private sector as a fundamental actor in any development processes;
  • highlighting the opportunities for optimizations and improvements within business companies;
  • informing respective public policies and, thus, accelerating developments in the country.

      This year the SDG Corporate Tracker will seek to analyze the contribution of SMEs, joint ventures and representatives from the infrastructure sector, as well as and assess the impact of their businesses on the advancement of the 2030 Agenda.

      The SDG Corporate Tracker has a bold, cooperative and dynamic approach that involves equally important partners - the private sector, civil society, academia and governments around very important and powerful messages:

-Collective action is the only way for the attainment of sustainability;

-Gathering SDG-related data directly in companies is the most efficient way to align their strategies and operations with the ambitions of the global development agenda.
