Description

Supporting the Protection and Assistance of Refugees in Kenya (SPARK). Kuza Biashara’s partner Action Africa Help International (AAHI) is part of the consortium of organizations executing the UNHCR’s funded SPARK program. Kuza has been tasked to capacity build youth and women who are vocational skills graduates trained by SPARK partner organizations Norwegian Refugee Council and the Danish Refugee council. The aim of Kuza’s intervention is to help the Vocational graduates to build a business model around the skills they have been impacted with.

About Kuza:

Kuza is a leading digital micro learning and community platform providing youth and artisans in the informal sector with entrepreneurship and soft skills. Kuza empowers them to learn, connect and grow on their own terms and at their own convenience. They access bite sized (snackable) digital content, e-Mentorship and industrial linkages both in urban and remotest locations of Africa through Kuza Edge off-grid digital platform.

Impact Achieved

In this project Kuza has rolled out its micro-learning platform (KuzaEdge) preloaded with modules on Core skills, Soft skills and entrepreneurship skills at the Kakuma Refugee camp, Kenya.

In this engagement Kuza is guided by the premise that, “Though talent is Universal, Opportunity is not.” The micro learning courses are offered via the KuzaEdge digital platform. The last mile access of the platform and content is provided via the portal digital kits and borrowed devices carried in a back pack by the community co-ordinator / outreach manager.

Through mentorship and coaching embedded on the platform young graduates from this program also stands to benefit in either loans for startup funding or capital injection from the Action Africa Help revolving funds.

Kuza foresees that this will lead to expanded opportunities for the youth, increased income for their family, a sustainable livelihood not just for the youth family but, via synergies and partnerships created, to the expanded refugee community.
