The Role of Philanthropy in COVID-19 Response

       The world is facing a triple health, environmental, and economic crisis. The global COVID-19 crisis has magnified the fragility and interdependency of our natural and economic ecosystems, triggering record debt and unemployment, and devastating global supply and value chains that employ millions of people with no access to social safety nets. Besides that, the crisis is showing us the effects of delaying our actions to 'leave no one behind' as it deepens the urgency to address issues such as climate change, social inequality, gender empowerment, among others. 

        The current crisis appears to be one of many we will face in the future. That is why this is also an opportunity to learn how to manage these situations. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offer us a common language and a collective framework to respond now and plan our actions in the long term. Governments, the private sector, citizens, and philanthropists are being called to use this as a blueprint to articulate their efforts and actively collaborate to build a better future together.

        The United Nations has developed a Framework for the Immediate Socio-Economic Response to COVID-19 that highlights the multiple challenges we have ahead and supports countries' path to social and economic recovery. In this context, we are pleased to invite you to a digital side-event on "The Role of Philanthropy in the Socio-Economic Response to COVID-19" to be held on July 8, 2020 from 8:30 am to 9:30 am (EDT), on the margins of the High Level Political Forum (HLPF). 

  This convening is organized jointly by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS) within the framework of the SDG Philanthropy Platform, in close collaboration with Candid.
