      Million Sparks Foundation (MSF) is a non-profit that focuses on capacity building of teachers and leaders of schools that serve low income and underprivileged children through a Mobile Application platform "ChalkLit". We started with a focus on Government and Low Income Schools across India and are now expanding our conversations to other South Asian and African countries. Our vision is to impact learning outcomes of 300 M students through capacitating 10 M teachers and school leaders by 2025 using a mobile app 'ChalkLit'

      We created a Mobile Application as smartphones are fast reaching every single teacher and provide a mechanism for us to supply content and ideas to them. Also, we focus on comprehensive capacity building inputs to teachers through:

  • Deep conceptual and pedagogical inputs in the form of state-mandated trainings;
  • Enhanced lesson plans for a teacher's tactical need of delivering a great next class;
  • Daily dose of short bite sized content that includes teacher's best practices, education news, pedagogical inputs, interesting activities, videos, teaching-learning material that teachers can review in a few minutes and make their classroom interesting and relevant.

      We maintain an equal focus on Academic and Extra Academic skills. In the past two years of our existence we have been able to move in the direction of a mature product with content curated from 4000+ global sources, and whose efficacy has now started to be seen at scale (100,000 teachers) across 6 states in India and we continue to improve all aspects of our work). There has been an independent research study conducted by the Delhi State Council of Education Research and Training, with support from the Indian Statistical Institute, and the National Council of Education Research and Training which has evaluated and found the intervention to be extremely effective for improving the classroom practice and pedagogical knowledge of teachers.
